Pierre Joos

„Analytical models usually don't fail because of the mathematics — they fail because no one asked what problem they are supposed to solve. Anyone introducing AI in the insurance industry doesn't need a better model. They first need a clear understanding of the process.“

Translates risk modeling and actuarial science into AI-powered decision processes — with 13 years of line responsibility as CRO and a research background in ML.

Pierre Joos was responsible for the risk of Allianz Deutschland for 13 years — first as Head of Risk Methodology, then as Chief Risk Officer. He then deliberately extended his mathematical foundation in actuarial science, ALM and Solvency II toward machine learning and behavioral economics: with a two-year research stay at LMU Munich, followed by concrete AI projects at Allianz — NLP analyses for MidCorp processes, geospatial analytics, a self-developed explainable AI model for cash flow analysis. At makematiq he brings something that rarely comes together: quantitative depth from risk management, combined with the perspective of a decision-maker who knows how models fail in large organizations — and why they don't have to.
